Why I Don't Listen to the Radio

The majority of people reading this probably know what a podcast is, but what does this combination of RSS and audio files mean for the future?

Currently I listen to about 1 hour of radio a week. This is the amount of time I am in my wife's car that has no stereo mini jack. Do I sit in silence on my daily hour commute. Not a chance.

Independently produced podcasts have almost completely replaced over the air radio in my world. Below is a list of 5 of the podcasts I listen to the most, in no particular order.

I have to admit that my insatiable appetite for tech news definitely helps me be able to fill that commute a little bit more easily. I am of the opinion, that we are currently at the beginning of the independent media revolution, and we will begin to see even more podcasts designed for very small interest groups.

I listen to the occasional "old media" offering, but downloading This American Life form NPR is a lot more painless than having to sit through the 2 weeks of their pledge drive every year.

So the question remains, am I the only person that doesn't use their radio, or am I a tiny minority that will never become part of the mainstream?

radio

I love the radio - I like the surprise of whatever you might find on there. It's always so nice to have a song come on that you love and it feels like fate! I won't get sick of the radio! ! !
